List of States of Mexico
Mexico is divided into 32 federal entities, which include 31 states and the capital, Mexico City. Each of Mexico’s states has unique geographical and cultural characteristics.
The northern region includes several states that are characterized by their proximity to the United States border and their diverse landscapes. These states include Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas. This region is known for its arid deserts, mountain ranges, and economic importance, particularly in manufacturing and cross-border trade.
The central part of Mexico is home to states that are often considered the heart of the country because of their historical and cultural significance. These states include Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, México, Morelos, Puebla, and Tlaxcala. This region is characterized by its high population density, historical sites, and economic activities centered around industry and services.
The southern and eastern regions of Mexico are known for their rich cultural heritage and diverse ecosystems. States in this area include Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. These states feature a mix of mountainous terrains, tropical rainforests, and coastal areas, and they are home to many Indigenous communities and archaeological sites.
The western part of Mexico includes states that are known for their beautiful coastlines and vibrant cultural traditions. Among these states are Jalisco, Michoacán, Colima, Nayarit, and Sinaloa. The region is characterized by its Pacific Ocean coastline, agricultural activities, and cultural festivals that attract tourists from around the world.
