Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival celebrating the bond (bandhana) between sisters and brothers and their mutual protection (raksha). Their bond is symbolized by a bracelet called a rakhi. The holiday occurs on the full-moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana, usually falling in August. It is most popular in northern India and in the Indian diaspora.
