The Holy Trinity fresco in the Church of Santa Maria Novella, Florence, is known for being the first extant example of the systematic use of one-point linear perspective. The technique, in which all the orthogonals recede to a central vanishing point, was developed by artist and architect Filippo Brunelleschi and creates a realistic depiction of three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface.
