Tim O’Brien won a National Book Award for his novel Going After Cacciato (1978) and the Society of American Historians Prize for Historical Fiction for In the Lake of the Woods (1994). His 1990 novel The Things They Carried was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. In 2013 O’Brien received the Pritzker Military Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing.
