Sukkot is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible. In Exodus it is described as a harvest festival, the Festival of the Ingathering, which is one of the three Pilgrim Festivals at which offerings were made in the Temple of Jerusalem in ancient times. Sukkot is also described in Leviticus as the Festival of Booths or Festival of Tabernacles, recalling the Israelites’ dwelling in huts during their 40 years of wandering in the wilderness.
