Arthur Ashe is the only Black player to win the men’s singles title at Wimbledon. He won the Grand Slam event in 1975, defeating fellow American Jimmy Connors. Several Black women have won at Wimbledon, including Althea Gibson (1957, 1958), Venus Williams (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008), and Serena Williams (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016).
