In July 1990 Aileen Wuornos and her girlfriend, Tyria Moore, crashed the car belonging to Peter Siems, one of Wuornos’s alleged victims. A witness provided a description of the women, and composite sketches were circulated to the media. Wuornos’s prints were also found on the car. During this time police located items belonging to Richard Mallory, her first known victim, at a pawnshop. The receipt was linked to Wuornos. More stolen items were located that could be traced to her. In January 1991 Wuornos was arrested at a bar called The Last Resort in Port Orange, Florida. In exchange for immunity, Moore elicited a confession from Wuornos during a taped phone call. Wuornos was executed in 2002.
