The conflict that began in Sudan in 2023 between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group has led to an enormous humanitarian crisis. In December 2024 the International Rescue Committee declared that it was the largest humanitarian crisis ever recorded, with some 30.4 million in need of humanitarian assistance, as well as being the largest displacement crisis in the world, with an estimated 11.4 million people displaced within Sudan and more than 3 million people displaced outside of the country.
