Cumberland Posey was widely regarded as the best African American basketball player in the early 1900s, winning four consecutive Colored Basketball World Championships. Later he became a player, manager, and owner of the Homestead Grays, a Negro League baseball team that won nine consecutive pennants. Posey is in both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and baseball’s Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
