During Passover some Jewish people eschew certain foods like leavened bread and legumes. In 1932 Maxwell House began printing and freely distributing the Haggadah (the retelling of Exodus, traditionally read during Passover) in part to convince Jewish customers that coffee “beans” were not legumes but berries and therefore kosher for the holiday. Maxwell House still gives away the Haggadah and has printed more than 50 million copies.
