Amy Winehouse was denied a visa to enter the United States on several occasions. Concerns over drug use initially prevented her from obtaining a visa to appear at the 2008 Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. (In January 2008 the Sun newspaper had posted a video in which Winehouse appeared to be smoking crack cocaine.) Although she was eventually granted a visa, it was too late for her to make the trip. Instead, she gave a special satellite performance in London. In 2009 Winehouse was denied a visa to appear at the Coachella music festival because of an alleged assault; she had been accused of striking a fan.
