Key bands in the riot grrrl movement included Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, Huggy Bear, Sleater-Kinney, and Heavens to Betsy. Some bands, such as Sleater-Kinney, Babes in Toyland, and L7, found mainstream success on the charts or in record sales. Joan Jett, formerly of the 1970s all-girl band the Runaways and a successful solo artist in the 1980s, joined forces with several riot grrrl musicians in the 1990s. The movement also spawned the Russian punk feminist collective Pussy Riot, founded in 2011.
