Donald Sutherland (1935–2024) was a prolific Canadian actor known for his versatility in playing both villains and benevolent characters.

After earning degrees in engineering and drama from the University of Toronto, Sutherland began his acting career on the London stage and in television. His early notable film roles include The Dirty Dozen (1967) and M*A*S*H (1970). Sutherland also starred in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Ordinary People (1980), and The Hunger Games series.

Sutherland’s television work includes Citizen X (1995), for which he won an Emmy and a Golden Globe, Commander in Chief (2005–06), and Trust (2018). His son Kiefer Sutherland is also an actor.
