Ravana is the 10-headed king of the demons (rakshasas) and the primary antagonist in the Sanskrit epic Ramayana. In that account, Ravana abducts Sita, the wife of the prince Rama, who is an avatar of the god Vishnu. This act leads to the demon’s defeat by Rama, aided by his brother Lakshmana and the monkey-god Hanuman, among many others.
