Ebenezer Scrooge is the miserly protagonist of Charles Dickens’s short novel A Christmas Carol (1843). At the end of the story he has transformed into a kind benefactor through the influence of a series of spectral visions that cause him to change his ways. Despite this transformation, the name Scrooge has become a synonym for a miser or a curmudgeon.
