Chris Evert and Serena Williams have each won the U.S. Open singles title six times. Prior to 1968, when only amateurs competed at major tournaments, Molla Mallory won what is now the U.S. Open singles championship eight times. Margaret Court won the singles tournament five times between 1962 and 1973 (she also won the amateur championships in 1968 and 1969). Steffi Graf, competing only in the open era, also won the U.S. Open singles title five times.
