The largest and most damaging of the multiple fires to strike the region were the Pacific Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire. The Palisades Fire, which spanned 23,448 acres (9,489 hectares), reduced much of the suburb of Pacific Palisades to ash, destroying 6,837 structures and claiming 12 lives. The Eaton Fire, which burned 14,021 acres (5,674 hectares), resulted in the destruction of 9,414 structures and caused the deaths of 18 people.
