Pre-Columbian civilizations developed in Mesoamerica (part of Mexico and Central America) and the Andean region (western South America). Mesoamerica was home to urban societies such as the Olmec, the Maya, and the Aztec. Andean urban societies included the Moche, Chimú, and Inca. Other regions of the Americas were also home to settled peoples at various times.
