Many miracles of healing have been attributed to St. Rose of Lima’s intercession. She is said to have cured people of leprosy and other illnesses. She also saved Lima, Peru, when Dutch pirates invaded the city in 1615. According to legend, when the pirates entered the Basilica of Santo Domingo, they saw Rose guarding the tabernacle and immediately returned to their ships and fled the port. It is also said that when Pope Clement X was preparing to declare her a saint in 1671, he prayed to her for a sign and it began to rain roses. Satisfied with this miracle, Clement officially canonized her.
