The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was a U.S. federal department that sought to modernize federal technology and maximize governmental efficiency. It was created on January 20, 2025, by an executive order from U.S. Pres. Donald Trump. The order reorganized an existing agency, the United States Digital Service, and renamed it the United States DOGE Service. In November 2025 it was announced that DOGE no longer existed. Its cost to taxpayers was disputed. While the agency stated that it had saved more than $200 million, some sources claimed that it cost Americans billions of dollars.
