Pieter Cullis moved from England to West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, at age eight and later attended West Vancouver High School. Inspired by his father, he pursued physics, earning bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from the University of British Columbia (UBC). He later shifted to biochemistry during postdoctoral studies and in 1978 joined UBC’s department of biochemistry and molecular biology.
