The Swiss Guards wear blue doublets and berets for daily duties and colorful Renaissance-era uniforms for ceremonies. The tunics are striped in the colors of the Medici family: red, dark blue, and yellow. White ruffs and high plumed helmets (with ostrich feathers colored to reflect different ranks) are also worn, as well as armor on occasion. While in traditional dress, the guards carry halberds and swords. The guard unveiled a new uniform in 2025 consisting of a black wool jacket with two rows of gold buttons, yellow cuffs, and yellow and white belt, and a mustard-colored Mao-style collar.
