The Church of the Nativity marks the site of Jesus’ birth according to Christian tradition. It was built in the 4th century by St. Helena over a cave that St. Justin Martyr had identified as the Nativity site in the 2nd century. A silver star inside the present-day structure marks the exact traditional locus of the Nativity.
