Padre Pio was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and Capuchin friar known for his mysticism and healing abilities. He received the stigmata (the wounds of Christ suffered on his hands, head, and feet during the his crucifixion) as early as 1910 and drew many followers. He was canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II in 2002.
