Janmashtami is a festival in Hinduism that celebrates the birth of the god Krishna, and it occurs on the eighth day of the dark fortnight of the Hindu calendar month Bhadrapada (August–September). Krishna is considered an avatar of the god Vishnu and hence is of great significance to Hindus who are devotees of Vishnu (Vaishnavas).
