Tisha b’Av commemorates the destruction of the First and Second Temples, the decree in Numbers in the Hebrew Bible that the Jews would wander for 40 years in the wilderness, the fall of Bethar in the Bar Kokhba Revolt, and the establishment of a Roman temple in Jerusalem. Later events associated with the holiday include the expulsion of the Jews from England and Spain and occurrences related to the Holocaust.
