In 2025 Joseph Kabila was charged in a Congolese military tribunal with several crimes, including treason, for his alleged involvement with the Congo River Alliance (AFC) and the M23 militia that were waging a rebellion in Congo’s eastern provinces. He was found guilty and sentenced to death in absentia later that year.
