The Muslim Brotherhood is an Islamist movement that emerged in 1928 when the Islamic world was grappling with questions of modernity and the Enlightenment, on the one hand, and with its own decline in the face of Western colonialism, on the other. It aims to renew the Islamic world by applying the precepts of the Qurʾān and the Hadith as guidelines for a healthy and thriving Islamic society.
