Santa Gertrudis cattle have solid cherry red coats with occasional white markings. They have great depth and length of body, thick skin, and elongated ears, and they may be hornless or horned. They are the heaviest of beef breeds, with mature bulls weighing 770–1,000 kg (1,700 and 2,200 pounds) and cows weighing 610–840 kg (1,350–1,850 pounds).
