A total of 48 teams, divided into 12 groups of 4 each, will compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Forty-two countries had qualified for the tournament ahead of the final draw, held in December 2025, to decide the composition of the groups. A playoff tournament has been scheduled for March 2026 to pick the final six qualifying teams.
