More than 800 children died at the St. Mary’s Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, Ireland, representing nearly one-quarter of the children who lived in the home during its operation from 1925 to 1961. The home was run by the Congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours (a Roman Catholic religious order) under the oversight of the Galway County Council.
