Jewish congregations spend the evening of Yom Kippur and the entire next day in prayer and meditation. The prayers on the eve of Yom Kippur include the famous Kol Nidre (Aramaic: “All Vows”) prayer. The services on the day of Yom Kippur continue from morning until evening and include readings from the Torah and the reciting of penitential prayers. The holiday ends with the blowing of the ritual horn known as the shofar.
