During Ganesh Chaturthi Hindus perform pujas to statues of Ganesha and offer various sweets. One sweet dumpling called a modak is considered to be Ganesha’s favorite food. Other sweets such as laddus are also offered to the deity. Once sanctified through offering, these tasty foods become prasada and are shared and enjoyed by the participants. On the final day of the festival, the statues of Ganesha are carried to bodies of water, sometimes in large and boisterous processions, and immersed.
