The Andrea Doria lies at a depth of about 250 feet (76 meters). The wreck is a popular dive site despite various hazards, notably submerged fishing lines and nets, strong currents, and sharks. It has been nicknamed the “Mount Everest of Wreck Diving” because of the technical skills required. By the early 21st century, more than 15 divers had been killed exploring the Andrea Doria.
