In 2024 the alleged apparitions of Mary in Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina, were declared nihil obstat (Latin: “nothing hinders”) by Pope Francis. This declaration allows the local bishop to encourage and promote devotion at the site, but it does not make conclusions concerning the alleged apparitions’ authenticity. Witnesses claim that Mary has been appearing in Medjugorje since 1981.
