No, Sammy Davis, Jr., did not have a glass eye—he had a plastic one. In 1954 he was injured in a car crash that resulted in the loss of his left eye. When he returned to performing, he initially wore an eye patch to cover his prosthetic eye, fearful of audiences’ reaction to his false eye and convinced that the patch made him look distinctive. His friend, the actor Humphrey Bogart, eventually persuaded him to stop wearing an eye patch.
