In 2014 Dutch scientists left a hamster wheel in the wild. They wanted to see if animals ran on the wheels only because they were in captivity or if they would use them willingly. Wild mice ran on the wheel enthusiastically, while other animals like shrews, frogs, and snails also tried it out.
